Rava upma is a pretty fast and simple dish. It's good for a quick weeknight meal since it doesn't require a lot of ingredients and is easily adaptable. The Calories don't look too bad either.

Ingredients:
100g (about 1/2 cup) of Rava/Sooji
1.5 cups of water
1/2 carrot - chopped into small pieces
1/4 onion - chopped into small pieces
1/4 cup peas

In a dry non-stick pan saute the Rava for a couple minutes until it turns light brown
Remove the Rava from the pan on to a seperate container
Return pan to the stove and add 1tspn of oil, mustard seeds, ginger paste, jalapeno, curry leaves and onion.
Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
Now add the carrots and peas and saute for a couple minutes
Add asafoetida and salt and mix well
Add the water to the pan and let it get to a boil
Slowly add the rava and stir with a whisk so no lumps form.
The rava should cook through in a couple minutes.
Remove from heat.
I eat upma with 4 tbsp of sour cream, which is an additional 80 Calories.
